Here are some stories that are easy to love and hard to forget.
No one will be able to sit still while listening to Doug Lipman sing and tell stories on his highly interactive recording, Keep On Shaking (Doug Lipman, 1982). The recording includes nine traditional tales and songs that have been adapted by Lipman. Several children joined him in the recording studio and chime in from time to time.
Each song or story includes many opportunities for young listeners to chant, move, sing or add their own ideas. The first story, "Keep On Shaking," has children shake various body parts to simple rhythm instruments. Children will be drawn in by Lipman's strong, comforting voice and will enjoy the gentle humor that pervades his stories.
I especially enjoyed "Rabbi and the Mosquitoes," a story of a rabbit who cleverly outsmarts a fox. The fox loves to cook, so Lipman asks the children on the tape what foods the fox should make and then uses their answers in the story. I'm sure that your child will also have some creative suggestions for the fox. This tape is so inviting that children will want to listen to it over and over again.
